THE PURPOSE OF THE TIGER’S MARKETPLACE

October 5, 2009 by thegreytiger

My intention is to finally do something other than talk about “BUY AMERICAN”

This  blog will link to companies and products I have actually purchased stuff from and  to supply you with my opinion of the products they sell.  It would be lovely if you would send me info on American stuff you have tried , or companies you do business with that are local and not big box, companies you find in your travel on the net but haven’t tried will be listed also under a separate category till one of us tries the product.

Links will also be of radio, tv, and web sites you frequent and find interesting.

I hope you will participate in making this site useful.

STUFF I ACTUALLY USE

ALL AMERICAN CLOTHING: I wear socks, tshirts from this site and have been really satisfied at the quality of the products.  They have pants, coats, sweat shirts too.

TEXAS JEANS: All styles of jeans all 100% American made and the price is right.  I now have six pair of their jeans and they are the most comfortable I’ve ever worn.  So far they are wearing well and look just fine and they are not $40 a pair.

FREE PODCASTS

JAMES HOWARD KUNSTLER: of The long emergency does a weekly podcast that most times is a good listen

PETER B COLLINS: Peter does a couple of podcast a week and is usually on the topic of the day.

WHITE ROSE SOCIETY: 20 plus podcasts featuring podcasts that are a week old for folks like Mike Malloy, Thom Hartman, Stephanie Miller which are pay for shows on the day but if your short on funds this is a great site to visit.  Bob Kincaid broadcasts from West Virginia and is interesting to listen to. On occasion the WRS asks for donations generally about 4 times a year so if you have some change and like the site drop him a dime.

DEMOCRACY NOW Amy Goodman tells it like it is.

FREE MUSIC

PANDORA RADIO:  Just enter in your favorite artist and this site builds a juke box for you around that artist. After you get a bunch of artist you can do a quick play and you pick a group of artists you want to hear and away you go.  50 free hours of music a month, after that for .99 you can listen the rest of the month. You have to do a lot of listening to get to 40hours.  Best feature , great to go to sleep with it turns itself off after awhile .  A really great site.

LAST FM: Just like Pandora but the selections you get for the same artist are quite different so between these two sites it gives you a wide selection of songs.  You can’t beat free.

LOCAL STORES

ACE HARDWARE: Locally owned and  operated.  We have six stores close to me each and every one of them is staffed with knowledgeable help that will help you solve almost any problem.  Damdest collection of nuts, bolts, fittings you won’t find anywhere else, they might have em but you won’t find them.. Walk into an Ace and ask where’s this and they whip it on you. A pure pleasure to shop at.  If they don’t have it in the store they will order it and it ships free.  Yep you pay a little more probably for some things but it’s worth it to avoid the frustration of the big box stores.

ECONOMICS

URBAN SURVIVAL: George Ure a long wave kind of guy provides 6 days a week dissection of what really is going on in the economic world.

SHADOW GOVERNMENT STATISTICS: Economy stats done the old way before they screwed with the formula so you can know exactly where we are and compare  it all the way back.

YAHOO FINANCE: Set up your own account and track stocks , mutual funds of anything financial , simply the easiest and best charts on the net.

BLOOMBERG FINANCAL NEWS:  Up to date business news , easy to find market data a great site to watch the future’s market.

FINANCIAL TIMES:  It ain’t the Wall Street Journal- so it’s probably the place to be

WASHINGTON’S BLOG: Always on top of the hot topics  of the times

MY BUDGET 360 : This blog does some very interesting stuff.
